A hand-knitted sweater’s price depends on its design. The current price of a listed model is shown with the product; a custom project needs a quote. One price cannot cover every size, stitch and yarn.
What affects the price?
Yarn and quantity
Composition, thickness, length per ball and the amount needed all matter. A number of balls cannot be converted to total weight without each ball’s weight. A quote should cover the full configuration, not only the fibre name.
Construction and work
Plain knitting, cables, colourwork, length and finishing require different work. There is no single standard number of hours for every sweater. We discuss the scope of a custom project before work starts.
Fit and finishing
Measurements, neckline, sleeves, bands and buttons affect the project. Finishing also includes weaving in ends, shaping as suitable for the yarn and preparing the garment for the customer.
How should you compare offers?
Compare more than the price:
- exact composition and fibre percentages;
- measurements and agreed changes;
- ready-made versus made-to-order availability;
- lead time and delivery cost separately;
- care instructions and any agreed adjustments.
Acrylic or other blended fibres do not remove the value of handcraft. A low price alone does not prove a maker is dishonest. The description should match what you receive.
What are you paying for?
Specific materials, hand knitting and an agreed design. Care can help preserve a sweater for many seasons, but no fixed lifespan can be promised for every garment. Repairs and alterations depend on its construction and condition.
