The highland sweater — a tradition from the Polish mountains
The highland sweater is the most recognisable Polish style: a chunky knit, cables worked on needles and wool that holds warmth even in a biting mountain wind. Traditionally it was made from raw sheep's wool; we knit it both in the classic version — fromundyed wool of Polish sheep — and in a modern one, from merino wool, which doesn't itch even against bare skin.
A women's cable-knit highland sweater looks as good in a mountain hut as it does in the city — a style that never goes out of fashion, because it was never chasing it. Each piece takes 60–80 hours of hand work: a cable pattern means constantly rearranging stitches and cannot be faithfully reproduced by machine.
